History & Architecture
The palace was built during the reign of Maharao Sir Khengarji III as a summer resort for the use of his son and heir to the kingdom, Yuvraj Vijayaraji, and is therefore named after him. Completed in 1929, the palace is built of red sandstone in the Rajput style, with a main central dome, Bengal domes at the sides, bastions at the corners, and coloured glass windows. It combines Rajput, Mughal, and Victorian architectural elements harmoniously.

Vijay Vilas Palace has been a highly favored location for filmmakers due to its regal charm and scenic private beach. Scenes from several acclaimed Bollywood movies have been shot here, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan, and Commando. Numerous Gujarati films have also featured the palace, making it a recognizable landmark in Indian cinema.
